What I think of Cheltenham Regency Hotel as a wedding venue:

From a customer’s point of view the Cheltenham Regency Hotel, has what you need for a wedding venue. They can cater for both a small wedding of 60 guests to a huge one of 180 depending on your preference. The event coordinators were busy around the clock making sure everything was perfect, from the small details on the table layouts to the alignments of the chairs for the ceremony. Any issues were dealt with efficiently during the whole day, there were no signs of drama. This is what you want for such a busy occasion like a wedding, and the staff were fantastic at making things run smoothly.

Now, from a photographers point of view, I was slightly disappointed. First off, do not take this as a negative thing as this is all based on visuals. The Cheltenham Regency Hotel is not the most photogenic of places, especially on the day I was there. The scaffolding on the side of the building was very limiting as it is not the kind of thing you would want to see in the background of your photos, and the only real area that was anywhere decent to do the photos was in the open field next to the driveway.

The field was open to the elements, and we had to do a lot of moving around to combat this but the photos came out better than hoped. One of the best features the hotel has is what’s known as a love seat. This seat is unfortunately tucked into a corner right next to the wall, and in my opinion is very wasted here. It would be good to see this seat moved to a more scenic area that would allow more natural light to surround it without the building shadows causing a hindrance.

Inside is a totally different story, the room that they used for the ceremony was stunning. The large bay windows allowed the sun to brightly shine into the room lighting it up beautifully, which left me not needing any kind of flash through the ceremony other than when I was shooting towards the windows themselves.

In conclusion, if you are local to Cheltenham and do not want to travel too far to get married, the Cheltenham Regency Hotel is a great suggestion, as the staff at this hotel go beyond their limit to make the day truly perfect.

UPDATE: I have since had a meeting with the manager and wedding coordinator. After they saw my concerns regarding photography at this venue, they have assured me they are working on many changes to make it more photogenic.
