Frequently Asked Questions

Everyone is looking for the right answers when they are wanting to hire someone to do a service. Below are some of the most frequently asked questions that I have had over the years.

General

No, I have not taken any photography courses. Most of what I know, I have learned on my own from books, websites and from working with other photographers. I also do a lot of photography which is the best way to learn. You will find that you learn a lot more by doing rather than writing about it.
No, I do not Photoshop or airbrush my photos to make them look better. The only adjustments I make are to the lighting, color and cropping of the image. There is no manipulation involved and I like to keep the photos true to life as you would see them if you were looking in the mirror. I will however touch up the photo if requested.
Often in most cases I will use natural lighting whenever possible. I find it complements the over all image more than light from a flashgun, however natural light is not always available. If I am using a flashgun I will have a diffuser attached to it to help disperse the light around you to remove unsightly shadows and to expose you correctly.
Use the phone’s camera? No! I always have 2 cameras with me, so if one does unfortunately fail on the day I will still have another to take its place.
I mainly use Canon equipment, for portraits and weddings I tend to use my Canon 6D with an attached 24-70mm lens. For action shots, I use my Canon 1D mk IV with an attached 150-500mm or my trusty 70-200mm. There are times when I will use both cameras in one session. I have 2 EX580 Flashguns which I will use for portrait shots.
Yes, all pictures are taken in color but can be converted to black and white, sepia, or any other effect, unless you ask me to do something more complicated there will be no extra charge.
Of course they can! Your photos will be protected behind a unique password that only you will have, you can give this password to anyone you like which will allow them to see your photos and order prints if they choose to do so.
Yes to both, but at the moment this is only if requested, to find out more about this please get in touch.
I hold the copyright to all my images, however you can buy print ready files to download or buy on disc, which can be taken to a photography lab for reproduction, you will be granted a license that allows you to reproduce the images for your personal use, or to give to family and friends. You are not permitted to send the images in any competition or sell them to third parties, such as photo stock agencies.
You can find the various products I have to offer on the Products page.
It is always best to have a backup plan if it does rain, usually we can do the shoot indoors, be it at home or some other attractive building. If you are adamant in wanting to an outdoor photo we can reschedule for another time, but advanced warning would be needed.
If you have seen photos in a magazine you would like to have done for your wedding, please send them to me so I can see what you would like and will do my best to replicate it for your day.
It is true there are photographers out there who cost far more, and you will find some who are cheaper than me too. I have balanced my prices to cover everything that happens on the day including the time spent on going though your photos days after the event. I try to offer the best quality at a fair price. Working from home allows me to keep the costs down.

Photo Booth

Yes, please make sure that before hiring the photo booth that the venue has the ideal space to allow the photo booth to be set up in. The photo booth requires 8ft long and 5ft deep, to function. The photo booth will also require access to a power socket, and for all the features to work access to WiFi
No – we bring it, assemble it and then take it apart and take it home at the end of your hire. You just have to turn up and smile!
There will always be one trained Booth Operator for the duration of your booking.
The booth has “touch screen” technology and is fairly self-explanatory but don’t worry, Booth Operator is on hand to help if you get stuck.
It is recommended that it is limited to 4 to 6 people at a time – however if we deem that the participants are particularly “merry” we reserve the right to reduce the number of people allowed in at one time for health and safety reasons.
We also reserve the right to refuse admission to any guest who we feel is inebriated to an extent whereby they may cause damage to themselves or our booth by entering in that state.
It is limited to 100 prints. One copy of every photo taken is included in your hire fee and your guests can have as many photos taken as they wish! For extra prints it will be £30 per 100 prints.
All the photos taken are available on the private gallery which you and your guests can visit to buy as many prints as they like.
No – we provide that for you entirely free – it will contain a selection of hats, wigs and glasses so you and your guests can get creative.
Yes of course – if the venue has a reliable WiFi service they can be uploaded as the photos are taken. If there is no WiFi or what’s there is a little bit temperamental, we will upload them for you the following day. Your guests can also send the photos to their personal Facebook profile by entering their details at the end of the session. No details are saved on the booth and the details will be deleted once your session is finished.
Of course – you have several options:

• You can have it emailed directly to you at the end of your session
• If your hosts have asked for a Facebook online gallery you can download it direct from there
• Or you can visit the private online gallery a few days after the event.

Your guests do not need to pay a penny as all prints available on the day would have been paid for in advance. By default, you get 100 prints free with the service.
Not as such – but remember that as this is a big, standing booth, children may be too small to reach the catchment area of the camera so you’d need to pick them up or stand them on something safe.
And remember due to child safety laws we can’t help your child onto chairs etc, nor be alone in the booth with them – so we politely request that when children are using the booth an adult member of your party is with us at all times. But as long as these requirements are fulfilled we are happy for the younger members of the party to join in as much as they wish during your hire time.

This is entirely up to you and depends on how you would like your photos to be, whether you want it to be casual, smart or even fancy dress!
If the session is taking place outside, it is best to take the photos in the morning where the light is the softest, this is also ideal if shooting kids as this is when they are more lively and cooperative. Indoor sessions can take place any time.
Your photo shoot can take place in any location you wish, I can take the photos at your home or at a place that you and your family enjoy such as a park, in the local forest or a mixture of places if time allows it.

To see a list of packages I offer both for weddings and portraits
It is very important that I take photos that you will like and want. When we have a pre wedding meeting we will go through the kind of photos you would like me to take, I will also take photos that I think you will like that you may not have even thought of.
That depends entirely on the wedding package you picked! The top package includes an attendance of 12 hours at the venue. You can of course hire me for extra hours for an added price per hour.
That is entirely up to you, if you are happy to have just the album you were given for a present, I will refund you 75% of what the album would have cost. Although be quick as I will not be able to offer a refund if I have started work on it already.

A great alternative for the gifted album is to use it for the photos your friends and family took of your day.

Not at all, I am perfectly capable of bringing my own lunch with me and while you are all eating, it gives me a great opportunity to go through the photos I have taken and to do a quick maintenance check on the equipment.
